Listening sessions are a cool and intimate way in which artists capture their audience and gain instant feedback.
The artist has a short interview, where they share their journey thus far; their inspiration as well as an upcoming project that they want to present to the audience. Thereafter, they enchant music lovers with a compilation of new work which the audience critics and compliments. As daunting and nerve-wracking as this may sound, it’s exceptionally efficient in getting the word out about new music that’s about to be released. This year alone has been quite exciting in this regard, as more artists have taken the risk and hosted listening sessions with some, even documenting the entire experience online.
Recent radio-sensation K.Set, real name Khumo Sethoba, hosted a session for his much-anticipated project ‘The World Is Beautiful’ earlier in the year, with CUT FM breakfast show host Nkox Nkokheli curating the vibe of the evening. Fans and friends of the media were taken on a musical journey that has seen K.Set’s music being played on national radio stations. Similar traction has been gained by fellow artists in the city, with dwellers bumping their music out of curiosity and intrigue. We attended a few and have nothing but respect for the artists that have emerged from the city
We anticipate some exciting times ahead, with creatives doing dope things for the culture.
